On July 30, the National Energy Administration (NEA) held its regular press conference to brief the public on China’s national energy situation and energy transition achievements in the first half of the year, grid-connected operation of renewable energy, energy and power supply guarantee for summer peak demand, and the development of charging infrastructure for electric vehicles. The China New Energy Storage Development Report (2026) was released at the conference, followed by a question-and-answer session with journalists.
At the press conference, Xu Jilin, Deputy Director-General of the Energy Conservation and Technology Equipment Department under the National Energy Administration, delivered a brief introduction to the China New Energy Storage Development Report (2026).
The Report consists of four main parts. First, it systematically summarizes the development of new energy storage at home and abroad in 2025 from perspectives including policy frameworks, installed capacity, technological innovation and industrial advancement. Second, it reviews the development journey of new energy storage in China since the start of the 14th Five-Year Plan period, and comprehensively summarizes key experience gained by the NEA in advancing the large-scale deployment, technological progress and industrial growth of new energy storage. Third, it outlines prospects for industrial development during the 15th Five-Year Plan period covering targeted application scenarios, innovation-driven development, rational development planning, enhanced industrial regulation, improved market mechanisms, and deeper exchanges and cooperation. Fourth, it lays out key tasks for 2026 to secure a sound start for the industry’s development in the 15th Five-Year Plan period.
